Porcelain veneers can provide a conservative alternative to full coverage crowns in many cases.
The short answer is that all procedures have positives and compromises associated with each.
We always make our recommendations based on your personal needs and desires.
So generally, there is no right or wrong answer as to whether veneers are a better choice if we are looking at this in terms of individual patients.
Having said that, the major issues that arise with porcelain veneers that occur less often with full crowns are chipping, slight staining especially at the edges and de-bonding.
Crowns, on the other hand, while more sturdy and resistant to staining or de-bonding in most cases, require that we remove far more tooth structure in order to make them properly.
There are many factors that help us decide which treatment to recommend, but whenever possible, we elect porcelain veneers since they offer a more conservative approach towards restoring your smile.
